While some of Japan’s larger job markets, such as manufacturing and construction, have reduced employee numbers in recent years, growth in other sectors is bringing new employment opportunities. In particular, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) has identified ‘attractive’ growth sectors in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
By far the biggest growth area in Japan is the information and communication technology (ICT) industry, estimated to grow to 84 trillion yen in 2010 according to the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications. Growth in this sector will bring an increased need for employees in businesses ranging from telecom operators, software developers, and internet-related service providers to book and newspaper publishers.
